This project aims to implement what it is known as Direct Legislation. The idea is that everyone has a right to vote directly on any piece of legislation that affects them. In the past this idea has been thought of as desirable in theory, but impossible to implement in practice.
That thought is wrong. It is perfectly possible, and we are going to do it. So we are going about setting up Direct Legislatures in all 435 US Congressional districts. If you want to learn a bit more about how we intend to make the impossible possible, check out our current very dinky little site: DemocracyStraightUp.org.
Two sites will be needed: a Voting Portal, which will be heavy on the back end, very light on the front end, and The Project Site which will be just the opposite.
As soon as we get funding we’ll be hiring full-time employees at competitive salaries. So if you are looking for a new job, and you want to do something you can feel really, really good about, volunteer now and you’ll be at the top of the list when we start hiring.
It is an ambitious project that will have a huge and lasting impact (should we succeed) but a surprisingly narrow focus: get those Direct Legislatures up and running! Right now we are in Phase One: Getting the Band Together. Haven’t you always wanted to be in a band?
