We are curating a community to value, support, and reward ChangeMakers for their impact. ChangeMakers use our network to showcase their progress and rally people to their cause. We then support ChangeMakers with access to goods and services from business partners. We envision our community building a world where livelihoods are created through impact and local resilience through shared prosperity.
Our network enables ChangeMakers to earn credits for documenting their progress in achieving Sustainable Development Goals. Credits can then be exchanged among a network of local businesses and entrepreneurs. By creating a new currency complementary to the US dollar, we can value typically unpaid labor, more closely align economic growth with impact, and foster local resilience and self-reliance within our communities.
Our initial web app (beta) focused on creating a marketplace and facilitating complementary currency transactions among ChangeMakers and local businesses. Although we have crafted a community on the ground around this, our current web app does little to showcase, gamify, and curate the impact our ChangeMakers are making. We would like to highlight the extraordinary work our ChangeMakers are doing by showcasing their created content and impact metrics across a network-wide activity feed. This will enable our ChangeMakers, and businesses to see the results of their participation, feel a part of a larger community, and create a groundswell of participation from yet-to-be-discovered ChangeMakers across our region.
Our research indicates that our target demographic of ChangeMakers consists of college-educated (Associates – Graduate Degree), young adults (ages 20-35), and predominantly women of low to mid-income ranges (nearly 75% making 20k-40k annually).
The recipients of ChangeMaker’s services will range from low-income populations, the food insecure, the elderly and people with disabilities, and those adversely affected by climate change.
We focus on small, local businesses, with 0-9 employees, making less than 200k in annual revenue. 46% of business owners identify as people of color. Many of these businesses are less than two years old. Our aim is to use the complementary currency to give small businesses leverage in a global market by developing local supply chains to keep wealth within the community.
We would like to improve our Proof of Impact (POI) functionality to will enable ChangeMakers to define impactful work for themselves. However, we create a framework for this definition using the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Proof of Impact enables ChangeMakers to generate content (such as before and after photos, video testimonials, etc) and data (impact metrics) about the work that they’ve done. We aim to have the web app pull metadata from content (such as photo location and time-stamps) to further validate their claims. From their work, ChangeMakers will earn 15CC/hour ($15 value).
This POI will be showcased in a network-wide activity feed viewable by all users across the network. Other ChangeMakers (CMs) and businesses will then approve their work based on the validity of documentation.
The proof of impact will be segmented by tags indicating the type of work, and impact area (SDGs). As ChangeMakers create Proof of Impact (POI), standard POI templates will allow CMs that complete similar work to document their work using the same templates. Additionally, these tags will enable disparate CMs to find others doing similar work and combine efforts. Certain POIs could eventually be segmented into initiatives/projects/or campaigns and viewable as such.
