Amphibian Ark coordinates amphibian conservation programs implemented by partners (zoos, aquariums, museums, universities and private conservationists) around the world, with our primary emphasis on programs within the range countries of the species, and with a constant attention to our obligation to couple captive conservation measures with necessary efforts to protect or restore species in their natural habitats.
Our Conservation Needs Assessment process evaluates and prioritizes threatened species for a range of conservation actions. We have designed a new process which further assesses species recommended for urgent rescue, via ~ 55 questions, to determine their suitability for a captive breeding program.
We are looking to have this process turned into a web-based program, which will store the results of each assessment, allow them to be searched and viewed by species. A simple level of security should be included, and since the process will be available from www.conservationneeds.org, the look and feel should be at least similar to the existing tool.
