My name is Valerie and I’m a software engineer at a large finance company. I worked for two years as a Release Manager before transitioning to my current role. During that time, I created a web application and desktop app using C#.Net, which — along with other utilities I wrote in Visual Basic — allowed my company to consolidate my position. After this, I was offered my current Software Engineer III role working with a team that manages stock quotes (considered one of the most essential applications at the company). In the time I’ve spent at the position, I’ve been in charge of adding features and functionality to the team dashboard site, which is based on the SEAN stack (SQL Server, Express, AngularJS, Node.js) and is in the process of being adopted by multiple other teams. I’ve also begun taking on responsibilities as part of the team’s build-out of a Rest API, such as evolving the logging functionality and running load tests. I joined this site partly out of a desire to help others and partly to seek out opportunities to expand my skillset.
