Even before Covid-19, increased social isolation is a growing social problem, associated with loneliness and depression. Users who visit this website(/app) will be invited to gaze into the eyes of another live (remote) human being, without sound, while focusing on conveying a sense of caring and compassion through their own eyes. They will be guided to do so without attachment, while simultaneously receiving the same intention from the other person. The premise is that the act can lift their moods and help them feel more connected.
Interface: webcam one-to-one live interaction that places a frame around the area of the user’s eyes, making only the eyes visible. Preferably detect face and center on the eyes; or just provide a static frame in which users position themselves to keep eyes in position. Interaction terminates after one minute. Post-interaction, user can start another interaction, or proceed to a brief survey to describe their experience.
Not much research has been conducted concerning eye contact as described here. Accordingly, as this experimental project evolves, it may be utilized as a research platform.
Open to the project being supported by advertising and/or donations that could pay a developer.
