Lapis Guides is a unique new tool that allows users to create interactive field guides with photographs, descriptions, and maps, which can be used by specialists and non-specialists alike – the latter serving as ‘citizen scientists’ – to study and address a wide range of purposes. As a platform app, with each digital field guide embedded within the umbrella app (each is available as an in-app download), the Lapis Guides platform serves three main functions: (1) as a digital field guide, (2) for the creation of new field guides according to users’ interests, and (3) for data collection by citizen scientists, with data stored and accessed (and available for download by Lapis Guides project managers) through the website, www.lapisguides.org.
Although the Lapis Guides app and platform is already fairly well developed, we still have need for on-going support from programming partners experienced with the “Ionic” software development kit in order to maintain the app and platform, especially to develop new features as required by emerging conservation projects and partners. For this purpose, we would be very glad for potential programming colleagues in the donate:code ‘family’ to reach out to us, to discuss the possibilities for partnering with us.
