Background to the “Own It” project
Fast Forward’s “Own It” project supports groups of young people to design and develop online game resources that enable them to share their experiences and stories of risk-taking behaviours.
“Own It” centres around non-linear online decision based games. These are created by young people, for young people to pose questions and raise awareness of risk taking behaviours.
Each bank of Own It group sessions lasts for 6-8 sessions with each session 90 minutes long.
Current State
The route that each “Own It” game takes is based on the decisions that each player makes. Those decisions reflect the stories developed by each of the young people that we work with.
Currently, young people create their stories and then wait 8-10 weeks for these to be transformed into usable and accessible games by an external Software Engineer (using Twinery based frameworks incorporating decision based tiles/fonts/images). This removes the young person from the process, and can cause disengagement due to the time lapsed between starting and finishing the project.
The current tool being used is Twinery.
Future State
The ideal outcome would be for young people to be able to create their own “Own It” game within a shorter period of time. Fast Forward would like young people to develop their own stories then instantly be able to access an Application/Tool where they could create their own decision based tiles, choose their own fonts and colours, drop in a choice of images or upload their own.
Fast Forward are open to continuing the use of Twinery, or switching to a more effective platform.
