    Project description:

GovSight Civic Technologies is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to make citizenship simplified through the dissemination of government and political information. GovSight is looking for developers to help build a Civic Information Platform designed to help people engage with their government.

Title: Volunteer Web Developer (Front and/or Back End)

    Intro:

GovSight Civic Technologies is looking for part-time volunteer front end, back end, or full stack web developers to assist in building and improving GovSight’s Civic Information Platform. Come help us make Citizenship Simplified!

Please note: This is a volunteer opportunity and not a paid position.

    Who we are:

GovSight is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to making citizenship simplified. We do this by boosting access to information on government and politics so users can make educated decisions about the people and policies that impact them. We put each users’ representatives, elections, and news in the palm of their hand to help them become more engaged in our democracy. You can learn more at GovSight.com.

    How we do it:

Through our Civic Information Platform, or C.I.P., we show users who their representatives are — from local to federal — and let them submit verified and accurate “GovSight Reports” about those officials. We also produce news content about pertinent politics in clear and concise podcasts, videos, and articles on GS News. Our developers build, manage, and update the Civic Information Platform for optimal user experience.

    The position:

As a web developer you will learn how to work in our specific environment and assist with tasks that range from building front-end web pages using HTML, CSS, Bootstrap 4, and Javascript to back-end tasks that involve Django and Python. GovSight is a place to learn as well as contribute: New developers are not expected to be proficient in all the languages and technologies needed to accomplish tasks, but are expected to have a drive to learn alongside other members of our development team.

    Recommended skills and qualifications:

    • A basic understanding of the Django Web Framework

    • Python

    • HTML/CSS/JS

    • Bootstrap 4

    • PostgreSQL

    • Interest in politics, government, and civics

    • Interest in GovSight and its mission

    Location:

    • Remote

    Requirements:

    • Reliable internet access

    • Passion for engaging with and helping people

    • Passion to learn

    • Ability to work autonomously

    • Strong communication skills

    • Recommended minimum of 5 hours of work per week

    • Attendance at monthly all-organization meeting and weekly team meetings
