The Lamb Center is a non-profit in Fairfax, VA serving the local poor and homeless community. They provide a wide array of services, one of which being free laundry service. They used to track their clients’ laundry using pen and paper, however they wanted to update to a software system in order to better track their clients. I created a desktop application using Java Swing. The application tracks the loads of laundry that they complete for their clients and provides a GUI to add clients and laundry loads, as well as manage rules about having laundry done.
The Lamb Center has been using the software for over a year, and there are many improvements that need to be made in order for it to continue to be a viable product for them. Some are front-end UI improvements to make it easier for volunteers to use, and others are back-end structural improvements to make it easier for developers to enhance the program and fix bugs.
I am looking for volunteers with experience working with at least 1 of SQL, Java, and Swing who would like to help improve the software. We receive direct feedback from the customer, use github to track the project, and Slack to communicate about the work. This is a great opportunity to make a huge impact on a local community and put your stamp on a real-world software project.
